Ricki Lake is an American actress mostly known for her lead role in the 1988 film, Hairspray where she played as Tracy Turnblad as well as for her talk show which aired internationally from September 1993 until May 2004. During her talk show’s debut, she was hailed to be the youngest person to host a syndicated talk show. In the year 2012, she released her second talk show which was called “The Ricki Lake Show” and was aired during the weekdays. It was shortly cancelled in 2013, but it gained her an Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host. Her success was followed by a series of other projects, like other films that she starred in such as Crybaby, where she worked with Johnny Depp and Susan Tyrrell, Serial Mom, Mrs Winterbourne, and Last Exit to Brooklyn.

On September 1, 1988, Ricki Pamela Lake was born in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. Barry, her father, was a pharmacist, while Jill, her mother, was a fulltime homemaker. She was raised by her paternal grandmother, Sylvia. Ricki has one sibling named Jennifer.
For her education, Ricki attended Hastings Elementary, went to Farragut Middle, and then attended Hastings High for two years. And by the end of her sophomore year, she transferred to an acting school in New York to focus on her career in acting.
At the age of seven, after watching “Annie”, she wanted to be a singer and an actress. While this is the case, her parents tried to protect her from the demands and the disappointments of showbiz life.
Ricki had very exceptional acting skills, but she was a plump child with braces, and what did not allow her to fill the more glamorous roles. She also attended the Professional Children’s School in Manhattan for acting.

During her freshman days, she received a call from her agent saying that they wanted to get her to play for a John Waters film in which she landed the role of Tracy Turnblad for the famous cult film, “Hairspray.”
After her success in Hairspray, Ricki started being more self-conscious and decided to spark a change in her life. She started exercising more, and eating healthier to lose a few pounds, and true enough, with the discipline she established for herself, she received more offers, and this is when her career as a talk show host started.
